Duplicated House

Expansion of a house in a Lisbon neighborhood of traditional semi-detached houses. The conflict between the regular geometry of the existing house – rectangular – with the small plot with a triangular shape, produces an exceptional situation: the extension body follows a different orientation, consisting in a duplication and rotation of the original volume.
This new building footprint allows the increase of the floor area desired by the clients, keeping the parking space and the outside area at the back, unobstructed due to the higher level than the surrounding area.
Building permit authorities required that any extensions made should be clearly distinguished from the original constructions. Thus, as the new volume is an exact copy of the original volumetry, it presents a radically different finish, with a stone grain covering the walls and roof indifferently.
Casa Duplicada

Ampliação de uma moradia num bairro Lisboeta de casas tradicionais geminadas. O conflito da geometria regular da casa existente – rectangular – com o pequeno lote de forma triangular, produz uma situação de excepção: o corpo ampliado segue uma orientação diferente, consistindo numa duplicação e rotação do volume original.
Esta nova implantação permite o aumento de área pretendido pelos clientes, mantendo o lugar de estacionamento e a zona exterior a tardoz, desafogada devido à cota superior à da envolvente.
As entidades licenciadoras exigiam que qualquer ampliação feita deveria ser claramente demarcada das construções originais. Assim, sendo o novo volume uma cópia exacta da volumetria original, este apresenta um acabamento radicalmente diferente, com um granulado de pedra a envolver paredes e cobertura indiferenciadamente.
